  Recommended Planting Range

  (previously: Schoenoplectus acutus)

Hardstem bulrush grows in marshes, lakes, and streams in standing water up to about five feet deep. It does best in a sandy lake bottom. It spreads by rhizomes and can form large patches, but is never as dense as cattails. The sturdy stems provide a good buffer against wave action.
