Basswood is a common tree in mesic deciduous forests. It also grows in lowland hardwood and white pine-hardwood forests, and along streams and lakeshores. It grows on well-drained loam or silty or sandy loam soils. A beautiful shade tree with fragrant flowers in early summer.
