Silver maple is a large, beautiful tree of floodplains on silty, alluvial soils. It is fast growing and tolerates flooding. Fall leaf color is yellow. Mature trees develop a beautiful arching form. Shallow roots may limit groundlayer plantings. Plump winged seeds appear in late spring, and are valuable wildlife food.
